Use Location Line and Pick Lines for Accurate Wall Placement

1. Start the Wall: Architectural command (Architecture → Wall, or shortcut WA).
2. In the options bar, set Location Line:
   • Wall Centerline
   • Core Centerline
   • Finish Face: Exterior
   • Finish Face: Interior
   • Core Face: Exterior
   • Core Face: Interior
3. When tracing existing geometry (e.g. DWG lines):
   1. Click Pick Lines.
   2. Hover over a line:
      • A blue preview shows where the wall will be offset.
      • Move the cursor to flip the direction (inside vs outside).
   3. Click to create the wall along that line.
   4. Press Tab to auto-complete closed loops, if available.
4. Choose Location Line strategy:
   • For perimeter walls with a fixed outer silhouette:
     • Use Finish Face: Exterior and offset inwards so the external footprint remains constant.
   • For walls defined by structural core alignment:
     • Use Core Centerline or Core Face options.

Flipping Wall Orientation

1. After placing a wall, select it.
2. Press Spacebar to flip the wall orientation (inside/outside).
3. Be careful:
   • Revit flips around the Location Line, which behaves like a mirror axis.
   • If Location Line is not centered, flipping moves the wall in plan.
4. To flip without shifting position:
   • Change the wall’s Location Line to Wall Centerline (or appropriate central reference).
   • Then press Spacebar to flip.

Notes

• Misusing Spacebar flips without understanding the Location Line can shift walls by several centimeters and cause serious coordination issues on real projects.
• Always confirm which line the wall is referencing before flipping.
