Understand Wall Types, Layers, and Graphic Detail

Read a wall type: layers, core, and how detail level changes its graphics.

  1. Select a wall and open its type:
    1. In the Properties palette, click Edit Type.
    2. Click Structure → Edit… to see the layers.
  2. Review wall composition:
    • Each row is a layer (e.g. finish, core, insulation).
    • Each layer uses a Material that controls hatch pattern and color.
  3. To inspect a material:
    1. In the Material column, click the material name (e.g. Brick).
    2. Open the Graphics tab and review:
      • Surface Pattern (for elevation/plan when not cut).
      • Cut Pattern (when the element is cut in section/plan).
      • Colors for both.
  4. To simplify graphics for conceptual work:
    1. In the view’s View Control Bar (bottom of the screen), change Detail Level to Coarse.
    2. Walls will be shown more simply, often as single-thickness lines/filled regions without detailed layer hatches.

Tip: Use Coarse detail in early design or studio work to avoid overly busy drawings, and switch to Medium or Fine when you need construction-level detail.
