Import Site Context: 3D Massing and 2D Linework
Site massing in 3D plus 2D linework, imported as coordinated context.
- In Rhino, split the context into two exports:
- 3D massing (buildings, main forms):
- Select only the building masses.
- Use File → Export Selected.
- Save as SAT or as a DWG containing solids (e.g.
massing.sat).
- 2D linework (streets, pavements, plaza outlines, etc.):
- Use selection tools like SelCrv to select all curves.
- Use File → Export Selected.
- Save as DWG (e.g.
context_2d.dwg).
- 3D massing (buildings, main forms):
- In Revit, link the 2D context:
- Insert → Link CAD.
- Choose
context_2d.dwg. - Set Positioning to Origin to Internal Origin.
- Place at Level 0 and click Open.
- Link the 3D massing:
- Insert → Link CAD or Link Revit/Import CAD (depending on format).
- Select
massing.sat(or the DWG with solids). - Use the same Origin to Internal Origin option and Level 0.
- Verify alignment:
- Open a 3D View and confirm the 3D masses sit directly above the 2D context.
- Open the relevant plan view (e.g. Level 0 or Site) and ensure the plan linework matches the buildings.
Tip: Keeping 3D masses and 2D linework in separate links gives you independent control over their visibility, lineweights, and print settings.
