Opening Shop Drawings

Generate door and window sheets from Revit.

An add-in for Revit, not a browser tool. Install the ArchiTool for Revit suite once, then select one or more doors or windows in Revit and generate each opening's elevation, jamb section, plan callout and schedule row — dimensioned and laid out on a titleblock sheet, one click per opening. A free trial covers your first few sheets; unlimited use is Pro.

How it works

The add-in runs inside Revit on the openings you select, lays the views and the schedule row onto a sheet, and signs in to your ArchiTool account the first time. The drawing is generated from the model you already have open.

  • You select the openings in Revit; the add-in generates the views and the schedule row for each.
  • Everything is composed on a titleblock sheet, ready to issue.
  • The first run opens your browser to sign in; after that the add-in remembers you.
  • Sheet generation is metered: a free trial, then Pro for unlimited.

Using it

Install the add-in

Run the ArchiTool for Revit installer once; it adds the ArchiTool.ai tab to Revit with Opening Shop Drawings, Rhino to Revit and Drawing Styles.

Select the openings

In Revit, select one or more doors or windows on the ArchiTool.ai tab, in the Opening Shop Drawings panel.

Generate and sign in

Click Generate Shop Drawing; the first time it opens your browser to sign in, then it remembers you.

Issue the sheet

Each selected opening arrives as an elevation, jamb section, plan callout and schedule row on a titleblock sheet.

What to trust it for

  • Producing door and window shop drawings without drafting each sheet by hand.
  • Keeping elevations, sections and the schedule row consistent across openings.
  • Adding a batch of openings to a sheet in one pass.

What not to use it for

  • Editing the model — it draws the openings you select, it does not design them.
  • A substitute for a fabricator's shop drawings.
  • Anything outside Revit.

Known limits

  • It needs the ArchiTool for Revit add-in installed (a Windows setup) and a supported Revit version.
  • The first run needs a browser sign-in with your ArchiTool account.
  • The free trial covers a limited number of sheets, then Pro is required.

Tips

  • Do — Select several openings at once to fill a sheet in one pass.
  • Avoid — Expecting it to run in a browser — generation happens inside Revit.
